Description
This piece is about the sacred relationship between melanated skin and the sun.
My Poem: When I step outside, I make sure to rub the sun’s rays in like lotion and wear their warmth like a cardigan in winter. That is our greeting. By 10 am, no matter if the air is sweet or crisp, we dance. My dance is a dance of freedom and connection to my ancestors who knew a fondness between my skin and Sun was destined to be. Sun’s dance was acceptance and love in the form of rays of light reflecting off the leaves of tall trees. That is our routine.
